Yes that’s a joke – it’s called a play on words. See the little dimples on the potato? Those are called “eyes”…but the potato can’t really see you. And this “ear” of corn…can’t really hear what you are saying.
I shared the joke because thinking about the “eyes and ears” in the garden reminded me that no one can hide from God. No matter where we are or what we do – God sees us.
What was the name of the first garden God told us about in the Bible? (Eden)
What happened in the Garden of Eden? (Allow the children to tell the story)
Yes, Adam and Eve didn’t obey God – they sinned – and God sent them out of the Garden – out of His Presence. They were “separated” from God.
Everyone sins. God wrote that message in many ways in the Bible. It is very clearly written for us in Romans 3:23. “For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” God knows we are sinners. God has seen every sin that has ever been committed. Just like Adam and Eve, we too are separated from God.
Sometimes we may look around to see if anyone sees us when we do something we shouldn’t do or say something we shouldn’t say. If we are not in church, or we are with people who do not know about God, Jesus, or the Bible – we might be tempted to sin. If we say unkind things, curse, or lie – God hears us.
We cannot hide from God. God’s EYES see us. God’s EAR hears us.
In Psalm 139:11-12, God’s Word tells us that, “If I say, 'Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around
me,' even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”
GOD SEES EVERYTHING. We cannot even hide in the dark. Every Word in the Bible is…absolutely true. The Bible says, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
(1 John 1:5). God is like the most gigantic flashlight you could EVER imagine, so it is ridiculous to ever think we can hide from HIM!
Suggested Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for always watching over us. Thank You for Your Word that tells us the Truth, gives us stories to explain Your plan for us, gives us warnings, and gives us hope. Thank You for sending Jesus to earth to shed his blood on the cross for our sins so that we do not have to be separated from You forever.
Help us not to sin, no matter where we are!
In Jesus’ Name we pray – AMEN!
